Current info: Doby Springs, Harper Co., OK is a state park. Harper
County was formed from Woodward and Woods county and from Indian
lands. This area is part of the old "Cherokee Strip/Outlet" and was
formed after statehood.
The town was named in honor of Christopher Columbus DOBY of Bellair,
Oklahoma Territory, who homesteaded the land during the land run
(1893) I believe. DOBY set approx. 40 acres of his land aside for a
townsite. The land for the townsite SW 1/4 of the SE 1/4 Section 10,
Township 27, Range 24 North, was surveyed by C. W. Simonds on 3
April, 1907. This information should be recorded at Woodward,
Woodward Co., OK.
The Doby Cemetery is just a few miles from the old town of Doby
Springs.
