Notes
for Edward Edwin NALL
v When Papa Nall was 9 years old his father died, and at the age of 12 his mother died. I recall hearing that the children were split up and sent to different relatives to live. I do know that Papa at one time was in Arizona with an Aunt Lou.
At
some point in his young life, Papa lived in Texas, possibly
Gainesville or Sherman. It was there that he and Mama met
and married. They moved around a bit as indicated by where
their children were born.
When
he moved his family to Waurika in 1906, he was engaged in the oil
business and co-owned a bank. Later he partnered with
Charles Stuard to build the Stuard-Nall Hotel on north Main in
Waurika.
The
following articles are from the Waurika News-Democrat:
v
While coming into Waurika from northwest of town, Joe
Mitchell, an oil man headquartering at the Stuard Hotel, E. E.
Nall and O. P. Gants boy sustained slight injuries when the
car, driven by Mitchell, turned turtle. The accident
happened as they were turning the corner north of the Cow Creek
bridge and is accredited to a little too much speed (20 miles an
hour).
E.
E. Nall, who suffered a stroke of paralysis Friday, March 12, and
was taken to a sanitarium at Sherman, Texas, succumbed to the
attack Sunday of this week.
It
will be remembered that Mr. Nall was engaged in setting out trees
when he suffered the stroke. He was immediately taken home
and medical aid summoned, and improved sufficiently to be taken
to Sherman, Texas. His entire left side was affected, even
causing temporary mental derangement and loss of speech. At
Sherman he was under the care of his brother, Dr. R. B. Nall, but
the shock proved too severe and medical skill was without avail
insofar as recovery was concerned.
The
remains were shipped to Waurika Tuesday morning and funeral
services were conducted at the family home that afternoon by Rev.
J. O. Peterson, pastor of the Methodist church. Burial took
place at the Waurika cemetery at 4 oclock. The
immense floral offerings and the large concourse of friends that
followed the remains to their last resting place bore evidence of
the fact that immediate members of the family are not the only
ones who mourn his untimely demise.
Mr.
Nall was only 42 years of age, and the entire community regrets
the fact that he should depart from his loved ones so early in
life. He was one of the citys biggest property
owners, and never did the opportunity present itself that he was
not found an aggressive and conservative booster for the town.
Among
the immediate relatives surviving are a wife and six children
residing in Waurika; three brothers, Dr. R. B., Carl and Arthur
Nall of Sherman, (the remaining part of the article was lost).
CARD
OF THANKS
We
take this means of thanking the people of Waurika who were so
kind to us in the burial of our husband, father and brother and
especially are we thankful for the beautiful floral offerings.
