Killed Three Men

Fort Smith, Ark., Aug. 31--IRA MCKEE and THOMAS JACKSON were today placed in the United States jail on the charge of murder, having been arrested in Texas several days since JAMES ALBERSON (ALBERTSON), their confederate in the alleged crime, has been here in jail about 14 months. It is charged that on the 23rd day of September, 1864, these three men murdered ROBERT REAMS, JOHN T. BARLOW, and ALBERT JACKSON on Mud Creek in the Chickasaw Nation. Alberson today stated that none of them denied killing the three men, but they did it in self-defense. He says a crowd of men came to his house, attacked him and his comrades early in the morning of the day mentioned and a fight ensued, in which the three men were killed and himself and McKee were wounded. Their trial will come up in a few days.
