Note from
submitter:
This is a photo of my father Glenn Preston
Wheeler and mother Lily Eleanor Campbell at their wedding which
took place on 2 November 1941 in Chula Vista, California when he
was stationed in San Diego. The very next month the Japanese
bombed Pearl Harbor and he left very soon thereafter. He found out
later in a letter that my mother was pregnant. His first son was
born while he fought in Europe but he would not see his son for a
few years. Had he not survived the 30 bombing missions over
Germany he would never have seen his son nor would he have five
more sons and one daughter including myself. To us dad was always
a hero and larger than life. Had it not been for him and the other
soldiers of the “greatest generation” America would not have
become a world leader and the government of the people may have
vanished from the earth and replaced by the National Socialism of
Germany.
