Ryan Cemetery |
The Ryan Cemetery is
divided into three sections due to it's having new parts
added as needed. Through the front arch on left and
right, is the Old New. Behind this, divided by the
Pioneer Road, is the Ancient. Here is the original
cemetery where the oldest grave marker is for 1889. There
are almost no new graves dug there unless the family
authorizes it. The Old New is almost as bad, having many
graves unmarked. Past the rock arch is a pole gate. This
gate leads to the road that divides the New, on the left,
from the Old New, on the right. In the Ancient Section, there is no map. It would take an aerial view to find any type of order for this area. From the ground it seems to be haphazard. The Old New is quite orderly and a new map was made a few years ago that can be seen at the City Hall along with a book of names in alphabetical order for searching. The New section is mapped, but a new one is in process, however, there is a book for searching, also at the City Hall. The Cemetery is located one mile south of Ryan on Hwy
81, then left just past the county barn. Half to
three-quarters of a mile along the paved road, on a hill,
is the gate.
