NEWKIRK, Jan. 22- Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Uncas Methodist church for William Cafferty, 97, believed to be one of oldest of Kay county residents, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ida Anderson in Newkirk Tuesday afternoon.

Cafferty was not only a pioneer in age but also a pioneer of Kay county, coming into this country at the opening of the Cherokee Strip and buying a claim near Uncas where he made his home until recent years. He came to this country from Nebraska. He was born Oct. 14, 1838 and died Jan. 21, 1935, at the age of 97 years, three months and seven days.

In addition to Anderson he is survived by a son, George Cafferty, who lives nine miles southwest of Newkirk and by nine grand children and eight great grand children. His wife preceeded him in death. He had been seriously ill for only two days, dying from infirmities of old age.

Burial will be made by the Hill Funeral Home at the Oak Grove Cemetery.

William Cafferty is my great-grandfather on my mother's side.
