I am 75 years old, I went to Old Bokoshe school the first day it open in 1942, when the WPA finished building it.
I was in the second grade. John Moyer Tulsa, OK

Under the WPA, Oklahoma gained numerous public buildings, parks and recreational facilities, roads, bridges, water and sewer systems, libraries, sewing rooms and even sanitary outhouses. Many of these improvements remain today. Hot lunch programs for schoolchildren and commodity distribution were other aspects of the WPA.

The work on these projects, such as hauling rocks, was hard, but unemployed people were grateful for the chance to earn money. Starvation was a likely alternative.
