The cemetery was sometimes referred to as Number Nine Cemetery because it was located close to the old Number Nine Coal Mine. About 1918, eleven miners were killed in a mine explosion. Some of them are buried in this cemetery.

The cemetery is in two parts: the White side and the Colored side. Most of the graves are unmarked. Information on some of the unmarked graves was obtained from old funeral home records. There are only 3 marked graves. It appears there were 11 'white' graves and 5 'colored' graves.

Dock Gaston is buried beside his children, Freddie C. and Violet Gaston.
