The Daily Oklahoman Oklahoma City, Oklahoma May 27, 1915 p 1 Heavy Damage Is Result Of Storm ...At Talihina...occurred the heaviest damage to buildings, nearly every structure in town having suffered damage...One person, Capt. W. A. Welch, was killed in Talihina, when a tree feel upon his residence and Catherine Leming, a school girl, was killed while returning from a rural school near Talihina... Talihina, Okla. May 26 (Special) - Capt. W. A. Welch, a Confederate veteran, was killed and five person injured in a tornado at Talihina Wednesday afternoon. Eight business houses and twelve residences were destroyed and several other buildings considerably damaged. The monetary loss is placed at about $50,000. The tornado which was accompanied by a heavy downpour of rain, struck Talihina about 3:30 o'clock with terrific force. Several persons were picked up and in many instances carried fifty yards by the wind. All communication with Talihina is badly interrupted. Property Damaged A partial list of the property damage follows: Talhinia, Okla., May 26 (Special) - Catherine Leming, 8 years old, was crushed to death in the wind storm here Wednesday afternoon. The child was returning home from a rual school when caught in the storm. [Note: see article below]
The Daily Oklahoman Two Lives Added To Death Toll Of Oklahoma Storms Muskogee, Okla. May 27 - Wind and rain storms which swept over eastern Oklahoma Thursday have added two names to the death toll... Mrs. John Kirkland was drowned when a cloudburst struck her home at Thomasville in LeFlore county Thursday. W. W. Wood, an employee of a pipe line company was killed by lightning at Mannford...W. H. Ebelen and G. L. Clinton were seriously injured. Catherine Clemens (sic), reported killed Wednesday in a tornado at Talihina is alive, but may die from injuries she received....
