James Eastling 

POCOLA — James Edward Eastling, 77, of Pocola died Monday, June 30, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was born March 1, 1926, in Gibson, N.C. He served in the Armed Forces, was employed as a custodian with the Fort Smith Public School System for 24 years and with the United Methodist Church in Fort Smith, a member of Union Baptist Church in Pocola where he served as a deacon and a member of Shady Grove Lodge No. 28.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Union Baptist Church in Pocola with burial at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Pocola.

He is survived by his wife, Violet; two daughters, Rosa Batten of Newport News, Va., and Paula Eastling of Shawnee, Okla.; two stepdaughters, Carolyn Dawson and Shannon Patrick, both of Fort Smith; three stepsons, Larry and Gaylord Roberts, both of Pocola, and Charles Gillory of Mississippi; three sisters, Paulin Gatlin and Sallie Ingram, both of Rockingham, N.C., and Mary Buckner of Fort Smith; 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
