Omer Chester Hood & Iva Lorene (Thresher)

December 21, 1910 ~ June 29, 2003

Omer was born to Lum and Cora Hood in Panama, Oklahoma. The Lord opened His arms and received Omer on June 29. He was preceded in death by his infant son, William Lee Hood. Omer married Iva Lorene Thresher on August 5, 1935, in Spiro, Oklahoma. They came to California in 1947 to Wasco and also lived in Shafter and Lamont before moving to Bakersfield. Omer worked in the cotton gins and the hay business in his earlier years and worked for the Lamont School District until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Iva; a son, Derril Hood; and daughters, Debbie Knight and Dorothy McWhorter; brothers, Johnny Hood and Rev. Ray Hood; and a sister, Dulcie Browder; as well as 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and many other close family members and a host of great friends.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. and funeral services will be on Thursday, at 2:00 p.m., in the Hillcrest Mortuary Chapel with interment to follow in the Holy Cross Lawn, Hillcrest Memorial Park
