James D. McAlister Services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2003 at Moore Funeral Home in Purvis, Miss. for James D. McAlister, 78, of Purvis, who passed away Monday, April 14, 2003 in Forest General Hospital at Hattiesburg. Burial was in Coaltown Cemetery, Purvis. Mr. McAlister was a veteran and retired in 1987 from Kansas City Southern Railroad after 38 years as an engineer. He was a member of VFW Post 3955 in Purvis and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He was a graduate of Poteau High School. Survivors include his wife, Dail L. McAlister of Purvis; a daughter, Rebecca Gamble of Purvis; two sons, James A. McAlister of New Orleans and Ray McAlister of Kenner, La.; a sister, Norma Schrodt of Poteau; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Other relatives include an aunt, Charlene McBee of Poteau; two uncles, Dan Shaw of Paradise, Calif. and Wayne Shaw of Bakersfield, Calif.; and numerous cousins, including Judy Jackson of Poteau, Sharon Cooper of Spiro, George Shaw of Wister and Roscoe Shaw Jr. of Poteau and Lafayette, Colo.
