As a young child in 1873, Lona Della had traveled by wagon with her parents, Hester Jane and William  M. “Buck” Davis, from Lamar County, Alabama, to become one of the early settlers in  Poteau, LeFlore County, Indian Territory.

The grandchildren of William M. "Buck" and Hester Davis, some of them were among the first to attend the Tarby Prairie School built near Poteau,  ca. 1905-1907.
