Herbert Swiney

SPIRO — Herbert Swiney, 74, of Spiro died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, in Spiro. He was a truck driver for the street department, a member of the Solid Rock Church of the Nazarene in Rock Island and an Army veteran of Work War II.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Solid Rock Church of the Nazarene in Rock Island with burial at Greenhill Cemetery in Poteau under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Pocola.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen; two daughters, Deana Bruce of Highland, Ill., and Pat Wilhoit of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; a son, John Tribble of St. Louis; a stepson, Bobby Boggs of Vallejo, Calif.; three sisters, Mildred Stroud of Spiro, Rosie Castleman of Earl and Nadine Baker of Eufaula; a brother, Tom Swiney of Panama; and three grandchildren.

Herbert Swiney, 74, of Spiro, passed away Friday, Feb. 21, 2003. He was born March 4, 1928 at northeast Arkansas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II, was a member of the Solid Rock Church of the Nazarene in Rock Island, and he loved to hunt and fish.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas and Pearl Swiney; and one brother, Steven Douglas Swiney.

Survivors include his wife Frances of the home; two daughters, Deana Bruce of Highland, Ill. and Pat Wilhoit of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; one stepson, Bobby Boggs of Valejo, Calif.; special son, the Rev. Gary Mashburn of Pawhatten, Ark.; three sisters, Mildred Stroud of Spiro, Rosie Castleman of Earl, Ark. and Nadine Baker of Eufaula; one brother, Tom Swiney of Panama; three grandchildren, Justin Reatherford of Tallahassee, Fla., Jamie Lewis and James Bond, both of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; three great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives and loved ones and a host of beloved friends.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24 at Solid Rock Church of the Nazarene in Rock Island with the Revs. L.G. Williams and Gary Mashburn officiating. Burial followed in Greenhill Cemetery at Cameron under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Pocola.
