Samuel Lafayette Doyle
Martha Francis Hughes 

Samuel Lafayette Doyle was born in Logan County, Arkansas, the son of Samuel Lafayette and Anna (Ezell) Doyle. Samuel died in 1917 and is buried at Hodgen Cemetery, Hodgen, Oklahoma.

Martha Francis Hughes was born in Logan County, Arkansas, the daughter of John and Kizzie (Dunlap) Hughes. Martha died in 1942 and buried beside Sam at Hodgen Cemetery.

Sam and Martha are listed in the 1910 Scott County, Arkansas census.

Elva Simmons and Martha Francis (Hughes) Doyle. Elva is the Mother of Nuel Simmons (blue dress), and Martha (white dress) is the Mother of Maude (Doyle) Simmons. Taken in the 1930's in Hodgen, OK.

Joyce is the daughter of Charles Sisco, grand-daughter of Mandy (Doyle) Sisco and gg grand-daughter of Samuel Lafayette and Martha Francis (Hughes) Doyle.

Lath Doyle, a well known farmer of near Hodgens, died Monday afternoon at four o'clock after an illness of about a week with lagrippe or pneumonia. 

Mr. Doyle is survived by a wife and a large family of children. He was a good citizen and had many friends who are grieved at the death.

The remains were buried at Hodgen's Tuesday afternoon.


Samuel Lafayette "Lath" Doyle, Jr. son of Samuel Lafayette and Anna Ezell-Doyle, died of pneumonia on February 15, 1917 in Hodgen, Oklahoma. Lath was born January 24, 1876 in Logan County, Arkansas. Lath married Martha Francis Hughes daughter of John E. and Kisiah Dunlap-Hughes on December 15, 1897 in Reichert, Oklahoma. 

Lath leaves his wife Martha and eight children to mourn his passing. Sons, Samuel Lee and George Thomas. Daughters, Francis Viola, Pearl Ann, Mary Ethel, Maude Ellen, Mandy and Cornelia. Daughter Emma died in 1908 and is buried in Blackfork, Arkansas. Lath was farmer by trade. He is buried in Hodgen Cemetery, Hodgen, Oklahoma.

Samuel Lafayette Doyel Jr., married Martha Francis Hughes daughter of John and Kisiah Dunlap-Hughs. Sam and Martha are listed in the 1910 Scott County Arkansas and the 1920 LeFlore County Census with their children: Vi, Pearl, Sam, William, Maude, Mary, Mandy, Emma and Cornelia. Sam and Martha both were born in Logan County, Arkansas. Sam died in 1917.

Francis Viola Doyle is the daughter of Sam and Martha Francis Hughes-Doyle. Vi married Christopher Columbus Caughern and they had nine children: Billy, Zeb, Charles, Gladys, Paralee, M.A., Evelyn, Janette and Freda. Vi and CC are buried in Hodgen Cemetery, Hodgen, Oklahoma.

Martha Francis Hughes-Doyle wife of Samuel, daughter of John and Kisiah Dunlap-Hughes. Martha died in 1942 and is buried next to Sam in Hodgen Cemetery.

George Thomas Doyle (George is the Doyle that changed the spelling from Doyel to Doyle) married Mary Alice Elliott, daughter of Benjamin Elliott and Sarah Leath. After Mary Alice died, George Thomas married Jane Forehand. George died in 1971 and is buried in Heavener, Oklahoma.

Carrie Ann Hughes daughter of daughter of John and Kisiah Dunlap-Hughs. Carrie Ann married Nelson King in Heavener, Oklahoma in 1900. They are listed in the LeFlore County, Oklahoma 1920 Census with their children: William Thomas, Earl, Frank, Mamie and Lucille.

Sam and Martha are my great grandparents.
