William Roy Holton, 89, of Poteau, passed away Monday, Feb. 10, 2003. He was born May 15, 1913 at Hill Town to James Nathaniel and Izella Mae (Richardson) Holton. He was a member of the South Broadway Church of Christ where he served as an elder for many years. He was former co-owner of Holton-McDonald Dealership and was in cattle and horse sales. Roy was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. It's hard to say goodbye to the "Wildest Trader in Indian Territory."
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Florene Whitehead Holton; his parents; three brothers and sisters.
Survivors include one son, William Roy Holton Jr. of Houston, Texas; three daughters and their spouses, Margaret and Bob Blake of Poteau, Freda and John Barton of Charlotte, N.C. and Nancy and Denny Anderson of Durant; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Florene Houston and Freda Wickham; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones; and a host of beloved friends.
Services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, Feb. 12 at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau with Mr. Bryan Loughmiller officiating.
A private family services will be held at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
