Donald Lee Lovell was born Sept. 22, 1940 in Shafter, Calif. and passed away Monday, Aug. 26, 2002 at his home in Laverne, Calif. at the age of 61. He was a retired warehouseman for the Citrus Growers Union.
Donald was preceded in death by one son, Donny; his father, Murl Lovell of Panama; and his mother, Velma Richards of Laverne. He was the nephew of the late songwriter Bobby Gene George from Rock Island, who wrote "I'll Never Pick Cotton" and "Long, Black Limousine" and many more.
Survivors include his sister, Barbara Sue Helvey of Laverne; one daughter, Christina; one son, Gary Don; three grandsons, Nico, Patrick and Joshua Lovell; and a granddaughter, Madison Lovell.
Donald excelled in sports in school, winning many medals and ribbons. He had many friends and loved ones and will be greatly missed.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, Sept. 3 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Covina, Calif.
