Oreda Juatheenia Wharton, 76, of Sonora died Saturday at a Sonora hospital.
Mrs. Wharton was born in Cameron, Okla., and had lived in Sonora for the past five years. Before moving to Sonora she lived in Mariposa for 12 years and Boron, in the Mojave Desert, for 25 years.
She was a retired hospital administrator, whose career included working at a hospital in Cameron, John Freemont Hospital Mariposa and Boron Community Hospital.
She was past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Mariposa and Boron, past state chaplain of American Legion Auxiliary and past district president and unit president of American Legion Auxiliary in Sonora and Mariposa. She enjoyed reading, fishing and traveling in recreational vehicles.
Mrs. Wharton is survived by her husband, Randy Wharton of Sonora; a daughter, Sherry Gamble of Mariposa; two sons, Ty Wilcox of La Grange and King Wilcox of Guatemala; two stepdaughters, Vickie Jean Harris of Arroyo Grande and Deborah Wharton of Walnut Creek; three sisters, Odessa Collins of Texas, Opal McAllister of Aptos and Janice Orene Miller of Janesville, Lassen County; eight grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held Thursday at Sonora Baptist Church, 412 W. Stockton Road, Sonora.
