Loyd Taylor Farrar, 76, of Lavaca died Friday, May 10, 2002, in a local hospital. He was born April 7, 1926, in Rock Island, Okla., and was a justice of the peace in Sebastian County for 16 years, mayor of Lavaca since 1978, a member of Vesta Baptist Church, a member of the Mayor's Hall of Fame, a retired captain in the Fort Smith Fire Department serving for 23 1/2 years, past president of Lavaca Riding Club, a member of Belle Point Lodge No. 20 for more than 50 years, a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 208, a licensed auctioneer in Arkansas and Oklahoma (inactive), an inactive member of Arkansas Real Estate and a member of the Sebastian County Regional Solid Waste Management Board and has served on many boards for the Arkansas Municipal League. For several years, he was the only person in the state of Arkansas to hold two elected positions.

Funeral will be 4 pm today at the First Baptist Church of Lavaca with burial at Lavaca City Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Lavaca.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; three stepdaughters, Tammy Taylor of Lavaca, Gail Granger of Barling and Patty Langley of Muldrow; two sons, Danny of Fayetteville and Carey; two stepsons, Monroe Moody of Cecil and Dudley Sparkman of Muldrow; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Raymond Mantooth, Rayburn Green, Chuck Wallace, Clyde Gibson, Charlie Weaver and Tommy Farrar.

Honorary pallbearers will be Fort Smith firefighters, Lavaca firefighters and law enforcement, and the Lavaca City Council. Memorial contributions may be made to Lavaca Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 3, Lavaca, AR 72941.
