Juanita Marie (Johnnye) Hamby Dowden, 89, passed away Dec. 6, 2009. She was born Jan. 13, 1920 in Heavener to Claude and Mattie Elizabeth Parham. She graduated from Heavener High School then attended Oklahoma Baptist University.

She married Warren Laymon Hamby in 1939. She worked as a city clerk for Poteau, retiring in 1985.

She married Glen Dowden in 1991. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Poteau and of the Gamma Omega Philanthropic Organization.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and two husbands.
She is survived by her daughter, Joy Hamby of Atlanta, Ga.;  a stepson, Hal and Pat Dowden of Poteau; a brother-in-law, Wayne Hamby of Poteau; two step-grandchildren. Christy and Marc Bovos of Poteau and David and Annmarie Dowden of Niceville, Fla.; four step-great-grandchildren, Matt and Hallie Bovos and Grace and Madeline Dowden; a niece, Anne George of Oklahoma City; two nephews, Gary and Sandra Parham of Tahlequah and Don and Pat Parham of Sunrise Beach, Mo.

A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Poteau with visitation and lunch served afterward. A prior service will be held at Oakland Cemetery prior to the memorial. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home, Heavener.
