Olen Pierce, 92, of Cameron, passed away Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at Van Buren, Ark. He was born Dec. 11, 1911 at Cameron (Liberty Hill), Okla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Edna (Sims) Pierce; and a sister, Mary Robertson.

He was a longtime rancher and resident of Cameron, a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years, a member of the Second Indian Head Division and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a retired Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army, serving during World War II and was awarded numerous awards and medals. He received the Purple Heart for injuries he received during the D-Day invasion on Utah Beach. He also served in Korea and Germany. He retired from the military 1957 with 20 years of service.

Survivors include one sister, Cecil Branstetter of Poteau; three nephews, Louis Carter of Lake Kiowa, Texas, Roy Robertson and Jerry Robertson, both of Cameron; four nieces, Sherry Branstetter, Meredith Heavener and Suzie Ward, all of Poteau and Erma Crowder of San Jacinto, Calif.; numerous other relatives and friends.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4 at Evans Chapel of Memories at Poteau with the Rev. Jimmy D. Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery at Poteau under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
