Cpl. Scott Michael Vincent, 21, of Bokoshe, passed away Friday, April 30, 2004, in Fallujah, Iraq. He was a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps. Scott liked to fish, hunt, repel and rock climb. He was an avid OU fan and loved watching NASCAR.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hubert and Vera Vincent.

Survivors include two sisters, Alisha Vincent and fianc/ Trace Sutton of Lafayette, La. and Kimberly McGinnis and husband James of Bokoshe; one nephew, Keith Treat of Lafayette, La.; his grandmother, Geneva Green of Park Hill, Okla.; and his parents, Royce and Judy Vincent of Cookson.

Services are pending at the Bokoshe High School Gymnasium with the Rev. Roy Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Old Bokoshe Cemetery under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.

Pallbearers will be the Marine Honor Guard.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Michael Phillips, Bill Lafferty, Brian Vincent and Justin Downs.
 

Bokoshe Marine killed

A Bokoshe man was killed Friday morning by a suicide bomber while conducting operations against anti-Coalition forces in Iraq, according to United States Central Command.

Cpl. Scott Michael Vincent, 21, was one of two men killed during a light reconnaissance vehicle patrol in the Al Anbar Province when an Iraqi vehicle laced with explosives approached and the explosives were ignited near the patrol, said U.S. Marine Corps Major Sims, with the Marine Corps Reserves based in Broken Arrow.

Cpl. Joshua S. Wilfong, 22, of Walker, W. Va., was also reportedly killed in the blast and six others were wounded.

Vincent, a 2000 graduate of Bokoshe High School, enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in July 2000 and was serving his third overseas deployment at the time of his death.

Sims said the man first served in Afghanistan and was deployed to Iraq last year before volunteering to serve there again this year.

Vincent was with the 1st Lt. Armed Recon Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expedition Force based out of Camp Lejeune, N.C.

He was the son of Royce and Judy Vincent, who have, since their son's deployment, reportedly relocated to Cookson.

Reports indicate that Vincent is one of 755 U.S. military fatalities in Iraq since March 2003 and one of 11 Oklahomans killed in the war overseas.

Five U.S. Navy sailors and one U.S. Army soldier were killed in the same area near Camp Fallujah Sunday as Coalition forces continue their attempts to bring peace to the region.

According to 1st Force Service Support Group Public Affairs, U.S. troops worked May 1 to outfit a newly-created Iraqi army battalion, the 1st Battalion of the Fallujah Brigade, with gear and weapons. The brigade is being established in hopes that it will be a concrete step toward a peaceful resolution in the volatile city, the public affairs release stated.

When it has been fully manned, the battalion will be comprised of up to 1,100 Iraqi army volunteers recruited by their former commanders.

Funeral Services for Vincent will be held at the Bokoshe High School Gymnasium, but the date and time for the services were still pending Monday afternoon.
