An overturned lamp at the home of John Boudreau created considerable commotion on Second avenue and Madison street Saturday evening, but some one in the house had sufficient presence of mind to throw a blanket over the blazing lamp, smothering the flames sufficiently to throw the whole mass out of doors before the building caught, thus averting what might have been a disastrous conflagration. In this connection it is not out of place to say that a very effective method of extinguishing burning oils is to throw on the flames a few handfulls of flour, the damp weight of that article smothering the blaze.
