FIRST ASSEMBLY of GOD CHURCH - Eufaula, Oklahoma
The Eufaula First Assembly of God Church began in 1928 ,
with Brother M. C. Salters and Brother Robert Long preaching in homes
of friends; and in a yard at the home of Brother Robert Buie; until
the winter of that year, when a house owned by Mr. Tully was rented;
and which was across the street north of the County Courthouse.
Then C. P. Mitchell came with his family for a big Tent Revival.
Afterwards a Church was set in order in 1932 with seventy one charter
members; it was set in order in a brick building where the present
post office now stands.
A Church building was started where the present Assembly
of God Parsonage now stands on Border Street and 6th Street.
The building was started by C. P. Mitchell with the walls up but he
left. A Brother Buddy Moore came and pastored for a year but
never finished the Church. Brother Robert Long took the Church
and pastored it for two years and finished the Church building.
Then a Brother Foley was elected for one year. Brother J. J.
Tyler for one year; Brother Postell for one year; Brother Jewell Mott
for one year; Brother Nolan Mott was elected and pastored for six
years. It was voted to move the Rock church off the hill to
down - town, where it now stands, south of the post office on First
Street; 119 South First ST. The first service there was on September
10, 1944. After Bro.. Mott left, Bro. Dave Harris pastored for
six years; he left in 1951; Brother Lawrence Moore was elected and
he stayed until June 9, 1957. Brother Harold Stockton came soon
after June 16, 1957, and stayed until 1963; Brother Edward Estes came
for the year in 1964.
Brother Paul Spinden was elected in 1965 and pastored until
1969, While he was there, it was voted to enlarge and rebuild.
A new auditorium was built adjacent to the old auditorium on the south;
it was finished in June - June 26, 1964. Afterwards, Brother
Paul Spinden left.
Brother M. F. Brockman was elected and came to pastor on
August 4, 1969; and is still pastoring this date: 1974.
* On July 22 1974 Brother M. F. Brockman was electrocuted
while repairing an antenna on the roof of his home. Rev. Charles
Holybee was elected to pastor the church on September 1, 1975.
