Mary Ann WILLIAMs was born near Little Rock, AR. Her family was an early settler of this AR area, probably before 1820 and are found on census thereafter on land records and census in Crawford Co., AR. Mary Ann probably met a man name William VREDENBURG near her home and married, probably moving toward Fort Kearney, Nebraska. They had two children, Don Alphonso and Nora before William VREDENBURG drowned in 1848. (As a note, VREDENBURG became spelled several ways such as VITTENBURG, BETTENBURG and BRITTENBURG) Mary Ann probably met Henry C. DECOURTNEY at Fort Kearney where he served 5 years at this Army post and fought in the Mexican War with the Co 6th U.S. Infantry. They married at Fort Kearney in 1850, the year Henry was discharged. According to pension files, they then moved forts from 1850 to approximately 1860, probably working as an agent. He was at Fort Smith, Fort Towson, Fort Washita, then Fort Cobb. By 1871 Mary Ann was living in the Fort Arbuckle area, listing her post office as Hennepin. It is not known when Henry supposedly purchased land from W. R. WATKINS in the COURTNEY, Love Co. area and WATKINS moved to Ardmore. WATKINS was married to a LOVE descendant and Henry claimed that his wife, Mary Ann was Chickasaw.
