The Round Stone Barn

Another mystery solved

Round Stone Barn, Buckhorn, OK

This stone barn is 1/4 mile west of the Buckhorn store 5 miles south of Sulphur.  The barn is about as perfectly round as you can get. I have always wondered what this structure was as most people have who drove past it. I finally tracked down an area pioneer who said it was a milk storage barn. The old fellow told me that the stone barn had a huge water tank on top of it at one time. A well and wind mill pumped water to the tank on top of the barn. This water then trickled down on the milk cans inside the stone barn keeping the milk cool and unspoiled. Another mystery solved.
