Hildebrand Cemetery
According to locals this was once a very large cemetery until a farmer, greedy for land
gathered up the majority of the tombstones and threw them in a ditch. Some members
of the Hildebrand family are buried here, as well as several Cherokee. The tombstones of A. Johns
has Cherokee writing on it. During the Civil War a ford that crossed the Arkansas River was located just a short
distance south of here. The ford was mentioned as Hildebrand's Ford in the books "War of the Rebellion".
There is mention of a skirmish between the Federal and Confederate soldiers called the "Battle of Greenleaf
Prairie" which was to have taken place just north of here.
