According to research by George Miller: Mary J. Shinn was a Howland. She and husband Columbus M. Shinn both were Cherokee Indians.
Erastus Howland and wife Susie E. Rider, born 1844 had a daughter Susie E. Howland Rogers. On the 1880 census E. J. Howland is a white man and his wife is Susie E. Howland. She has a census card #1582. On the Dawes rolls census card # 1582 is Susie E. age 58, Susie E. 16 and William Howland 20. On the Miller Roll, the Susie E. that is 16 is Susie E. Howland Rogers.
