John Allen Raines, Jr.

Johnny was born Aug 15 1881 in Boone Co. Lead Hill Ark. He was the oldest child of John Allen and Mary Elizabeth Bly De Jurnette.

He came to Ft. Gibson I.T. in 1898 where he worked driving a freight wagon for Joe Eldridge to Tahlequah for $3.00 a day plus 1 meal.

He Married Mary Amy [Omie] Rowan May 25 1901 with the marriage license acquired in Wagoner as Muskogee didn't have a court house at that time.

Omie was born Sept 24,1881 in Lead Hill Ark to John and Martha Hurd Rowan.

The Rowans came to I.T. in 1898 with the Raines and Haskins Family.

Johnny's parents moved back to Ark in 1899 but he remained in Ft Gibson with his Aunt and Uncle John and Priscilla Haskins.

Johnny and Omie lived in a wagon several months after their marriage.

Until her marriage ,Omie worked as a maid and Seamstress for John and Mary Rogers in large white house near the Ark River Bridge.

They made several trips back to Boone Co ark before coming back to Ft. Gibson to remain the rest of their lives in 1921.

Johnny and Omie had 10 children.

3 died as infants and 1 died age 7.

[1] Martha Ann [Annie] born Dec 10 1902 in Boone Co. Ark married Sam Bowlen. Mar 23 1923 Muskogee, OK.

She died Dec 17 1973 in Houston, Texas and is buried in the Citizen Cem, Ft Gibson, OK.

Their children: Fern, Allen, Darlene ,Sam, Delma, Ruth, Joyce and Blanche.

[3] Otto born Mar 11 1906 died April 9 1906 Buried in Lead Hill Ark.

[4] Annis Sarah born Jan 7 1907 in Boone co Ark. married Frank Moydell.

Died may 1996 in Ft. Gibson Okla. Buried in Citizen Cem.

Their Children: Elmer, Louise, Tom and Carolyn

[5] Edward Reno [Bill] born April 26 1912 in Boone co Ark married Pheby Throuveny May 26 1933, Ft Gibson Died Nov 30 1969, Buried in Ft Gibson Ok.

[6] Bonnie Jane born June 12 1915, Meeker OK. Died Nov 30 1979 . Buried in Citizen Cem, Ft Gibson. Married #1 Jay Eubanks Children Estelle [Peck] and Charles.

[7] Walter [Jack] born Jan 29 1918, rague Okla. Married Ethel Mc Nutt 1939. Children: Francis and Linda.

[8] Infant son born and died 1920 in Prague Okla. buried in Keokuk Cem .

[9] Bernice Mae born Aug 30 1922, Ft Gibson Okla. Married #1 Wesley Sawyer Oct 15 1943 in Carlsbad Calif. children: Bobby, Wesley. Linda and John

Omie Died Dec 14 1946 and is buried in Citizen Cem, Ft Gibson

Johnny Died Nov 20 1968.

Mishap Fatal to Ft Gibson Man

John A. [Uncle Johnny] Raines, 87, of Ft Gibson died ca 10 a.m. Wed. in General Hospital, Muskogee. Investigator ,Dean Beene of the D. A.'s office said Raines was struck by a car while crossing the street. The accident occurred ca 1/2 block west of Ft Gibson's only traffic light. Kenneth Smith, of Ft Gibson, driver of the car, was cited for driving with obstructed vision. Born Aug 15 1881 in Boone Co Ark, Johnny was a retired stonemason and came to Ft Gibson in 1898. Survivors include; 2 sons, Bill of Ft Gibson and Jack of Muskogee.4 daughters, Annie Bowlen and Annis Moydell of Sacremento Ca. Bonnie Bailey and Bernice Rogers of Ft Gibson. 3 Brothers, Bob, Paul and Jim, 3 sisters ,Mae Perry, Modelia Green and Ola Van Horn. He is buried beside Omie in Citizen Cem, Ft Gibson OK.
