William Judson Holloway, Governor of Oklahoma

William J. Holloway was born in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, on December 15, 1888. He attended Ouachita College, and graduated in 1910. He moved to Hugo, Oklahoma where he became a high school principal, and began in the reading of law. He later attended law school at Cumberland University and was admitted to the bar. He returned to Hugo to practice. He held the office of county attorney, and was elected to the Oklahoma State Senate from his district in 1919. There he served as President Pro Tempore, in 1926. He was elected Lieutenant Governor in 1926 and became Governor upon the impeachment of Henry S. Johnston. He remained in Oklahoma City, where he practiced law until the time of his death on January 28, 1970.
