Bird S. McGuire

Bird S. McGuire was born at Belleville, Illinois, in 1864. Most of his early life was spent in northern Missouri. During his earlier manhood, he spent several years on a stock ranch in the Indian Territory. He entered the Kansas State Normal School, at Emporia, in 1884, where he spent two years. He then engaged in teaching, reading law at the same time, later completing his professional preparation at the law school of the University of Kansas. He filled the office of the county attorney of Chautauqua County, Kansas, for two terms. In 1895, he located at Pawnee, Oklahoma. In 1897, he was appointed assistant United States District Attorney. In 1902, he was nominated by the republicans for delegate to Congress. In 1904, he was renominated and reelected. In 1907, he was elected as representative in Congress from the first district of Oklahoma and was reelected in 1908, 1910, and 1912. He lived out his life in Tulsa, where he practiced law.
