History of Highland Cemetery
A to D   E to K   L to P   R to Z

The first person buried in Highland cemetery was Mr. Jacob Scoffield, who had resided in Okemah only a short time. His death occurred on May 15, 1904. Mr. A. B. Allen and the late Judge W. J. Lawrence located a strip of un-allotted land and helped open the first grave. Prior to this time burials were made a Morse and Rock Creek cemetery.

Prior to July, 1927, no record was kept of persons buried in cemetery. Only 60 graves remain unidentified (in 1940). We have the names of 28 people buried here whose graves are not identified. They are:

Baby Sweeten, father Samuel J. Sweeten
Baby Landers, father Jim Landers
Baby Musgrove, father Dock Musgrove
Baby Marsh, father Will Marsh
Baby Pratt, mother, Mrs. Pearl Pratt
Baby Bloomer, father Sam Bloomer
Baby Brinsfield, father Charlie Brinsfield
Baby Bryant, father Frank Bryant
Baby Ward, father Gene Ward
Baby Ward, father Fisher Ward
Baby Daniel, father John Daniel
Baby Adkins, foster father E. B. Adkins
Baby Stark, father N.J. Stark
Baby Hynes, father John Hynes
Baby Mills, father Will Mills
Bobby Gene Smith, father A.M. Smith
Lonnie Stout, died 1910
William Doty, died 1906
William Shoate, died 1914
Baby Capps, parents resided near town
Baby Murry, has uncle named Rev. Jim Smith
Amanda Webb and baby, has son named Vernon Webb
___ Wilson, died 1910 on Castle road
___Wilson, Mrs., died 1904, lived in southwest corner of Gibson's wagon yard.  Her baby died two weeks prior to her death. Her mother was ____Miller.

There is a head rock marked V. C. G., 1904. On another, A. D. M., and on another rock, J. A. L.
