James Henry Henderson  1866-1941

Bro. J. H. Henderson is listed as one of the early pastors of the First Christian Church of Weleetka, Oklahoma during the years 1906-1913.

James H. Henderson was born September 12, 1866 in Kingston township, Madison county, Arkansas, son of John E. Henderson and his 2nd wife, Nancy Patience (Rodgers) Henderson.

His father died in late 1869 or early 1870. Sometime before 1882 Nancy Henderson moved her family to Grayson county, Texas where she married George W. Wilson.  One of George Wilson's five children of his first wife, Susan Foster, was Susanna Belle Wilson.  James and Susanna were married June 22, 1890 probably in Grayson county.

Their four children were Basil Cyril Henderson born October 20, 1893,  Noel Ruskin Henderson born February 3, 1896, Grayson Lowell Henderson born in December 1899 or 1900, and Georgia P. Henderson born July 29, 1906.

Some of the places the family lived was Tallula, Menard county, Illinois where Georgia was born, and Nacoma, Georgia in 1917 when Susanna's father died.  James Henderson died February 25, 1941 in Scott county, Arkansas.  The Advance Reporter, a Scott county newspaper printed a card of thanks from the family on March 6, 1941, naming all the children.

James was buried in Weleetka cemetery where his wife was also buried in November 1944 and two of his sons, Basil Cyril Henderson and Grayson Lowell Henderson.

[Note: My grandmother, Eula Edith Wilson McCrary was the only child of George and Nancy Wilson.  She had many pictures of James and his family and probably keep in close contact with them as she was related to both as the younger half sister. Submitted by Carolyn G. Smith, 1999]
