Chief Okemah

Photos
The town of Okemah was named for an Indian man who was living on the area selected for the town. Reports about his life vary widely. Most say that he was a Kickapoo leader, although Perry Rodkey is said to have believed him a Euchee. He reportedly emigrated to Old Mexico in 1905, but later lived in Harrah, OK. He is buried at Hanna, with his death occurring either in 1921 or 1935.
