A county in central Oklahoma, identical to
Oklahoma County, Oklahoma Territory. The name is a
projection of the name of the principal community and city of
the county, first known as Oklahoma Station, a stop on the Santa
Fe Railway that later became Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma Place Names by
George H. Shirk. Norman, OK: University of Oklahoma Press.
The world's first installed
parking meter was in Oklahoma City, on July 16, 1935. Carl C.
Magee, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, is generally credited with
originating the parking meter. He filed for a patent for a "coin
