George W. Bowers, Major USAF Ret., 71, of Caldwell passed away at home on Thursday, October 18, 2001. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 11 am Thursday, October 25, 2001 at Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. 

George was born on February 15, 1930 in Oklahoma City, Okla., the son of George and Lois Bowers. George joined the United States Air Force in 1953 and served his country in a long and distinguished career as a USAF pilot. While stationed in England, George met and married his wife, Audrey May Barber in September, 1955. Together they enjoyed a full life raising their four children. In 1970, George retired from the Air Force. Shortly there after, George and his family moved to Caldwell where he has lived ever since. George enjoyed his retirement years by pursuing his passion for fishing and bridge.

George is survived by his wife of 46 years, Audrey; his daughters, Karen (Rick) Compton, Debra (Carl) Phelps and Kimberley (Bob) Roberts; his son, Glenn (Kristi) Bowers; his ten grandchildren, Will Compton, Bryan Phelps, Aaron Phelps, Joseph Phelps, Matthew Phelps, Brandon Roberts, Ben Roberts, Drew Roberts, Nathan Roberts and Peyton Bowers; his brother, Bob (Margaret) Bowers; and his niece, Vicki. 

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be sent to XL Hospice, 25 Wall St., Nampa, ID 83651; or Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.
