Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
November 13, 2008

Jim D. Brewer, 71, a lifetime resident of South Oklahoma City, was called to reside in his heavenly home on Nov. 11, 2008. He was born February 6, 1937 in Oklahoma City to Elvis & Evelyn Brewer . Jim 's education was cut short because of his necessity to work and was unable to finish Capitol Hill High School.

Starting out as an iron worker and delivering newspapers, Jim has risen to become one of Oklahoma City's major business men and is now remembered as "The Father of Bricktown". Jim was very diversified in his many business ventures, including rebuilding transmissions at his shop, Jim Dandy's Transmissions, to opening four nightclubs throughout the 70's, one being "the Super Rig". This is when Jim decided to try the oil business. During this time he made several successful deals and became the first leasee of the Will Rogers Airport Oil field. Seeing a downtown in the market, Jim transferred his oil interests to real estate by purchasing several downtown warehouse buildings now known as "Bricktown". Working with an area having no street lights and occupied only by transients, Jim began his journey to make Bricktown a destination by opening The Bricktown Haunted Warehouse and a successful piano bar called "Obriens". He was also very instrumental in the first MAPS project.

Jim and his family are now one of the largest property owners in Bricktown, owning many properties including The Santa Fe Train Station and the Coca Cola Bricktown Event Center. Jim was an active member of his community, receiving the Phoenix Award in 1991 that recognized his achievements in the restoration of life and prosperity to Downtown Oklahoma City to being on numerous boards and committees including Downtown OKC, Inc. Jim was a former Shriner and active 32nd Degree Mason at the Siloam Lodge.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, son Chris Brewer, and sister Jody Chase.

He is survived and leaves cherished memories with his loving wife of 40 years, Patsy of the home; sons, Scott Brewer and wife, Sharon, their children, Chase, Taryn , Kevin, and Keith of Choctaw, OK; Brent Brewer and wife Lori, their children, Blaine, Blair, and Blevin of Oklahoma City, OK; Brett Brewer and wife, Sonya, their children, Daulton, Dylan, Brittain and Brady of Oklahoma City, OK; sisters, Joyce Ledford of Moore, OK, Nora Brown of Oklahoma City, and Linda Brewer of Oklahoma City; and a host of other loving family and friends.

The family will receive friends for viewing and visitation from 5-7 PM, Thursday, at Vondel Smith & Son Mortuary at South Lakes, 4000 SW 119th St.

Services to celebrate his life will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at Southern Hills Baptist Church, 8601 S. Penn Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jim can be made to: The Bricktown Association.
