Ron Briggs, 57, of Choctaw passed away April 19, 2006. He was born September 3, 1948 to Melvin and Jimmie Briggs in Niagra Falls, New York. In 1967, Ron enlisted into the United States Army. In 1969 Ron married his wife Donna in Shidler, OK. In 1970, Ron began working for the Oklahoma County Surveyor where he became a registered Land Surveyor in Oklahoma and Arkansas. In 1980 he started Briggs Surveying Co. During this time, he also served as city councilman in Ward 4 of Choctaw, mayor and police chief. In 1984 he became a full-time police officer in Nicoma Park, OK and later served as Police Chief. In 1987 he went to work for Choctaw Police Department. After one year he was promoted to sargeant over patrol division, and then promoted to Investigator. In 1996 he started work for Oklahoma County Sheriff as a Lt. in Internal Affairs, later being promoted to Captain over Investigations and the forensic division. He later went to the Training Center where he retired. 

Ron is preceded in death by his father Melvin Briggs. He leaves behind his wife Donna; his mother Jimmie; children Jeremy and Krista; three brothers Jerry, Gary and Rick; one sister Darlene; four grandchildren Dylan, Derrick, Hailey, and Wyatt; many nieces, nephews, and friends that loved him very much. 

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2006 at Hibbs Funeral Home Chapel. [390-2626 2190 Harper Street, Choctaw, OK]
