Edward Lydell Brookshire passed away on Monday,
May 18, 2009, after a long and courageous battle with heart and
kidney disease. Eddie was born in 1955 in Oklahoma City to Lloyd
and Nancy Brookshire . He married Janice, his high school
sweetheart and soulmate, on June 29, 1974, and would have
celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary this June. They have
two children, Kelli and Edward, and Eddie spent every summer
coaching, watching, or cheering them on in various activities.
Eddie started racing stock cars in the late 1970's and worked
his way up to super-modified until a near-fatal crash in 1982.
He won several championships and trophies, and loved to race. He
loved classic cars, too, and spent much of his life rebuilding
and reselling them. He was a plumber by trade, and together with
Janice, they founded Sooner Service Company in 1979 and spent 30
years building it into one of the most successful plumbing,
heating, and air conditioning service companies in the metro
area. Eddie and Janice had lots of hobbies, and their circle of
friends encompasses every aspect of their life. Eddie loved to
fish, and took his entire family on camping, boating, and
fishing trips every summer in the RV. Family trips to the lake
usually expanded to quickly include old and new friends. They
loved Harley-Davidson motorcycles and Eddie and Janice loved to
ride, whether it be just around town, or across the country.
They loved to sing, too, and were well known in karaoke joints
all around town. Eddie was an incredible poker player, and even
played on the World Poker Tour in San Jose, California, in March
2006. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and older
brother Wayne Brookshire .
He is survived by his wife and soulmate Janice
Brookshire , daughter Kelli Brookshire , son and daughter-in-law
Edward and Denise Brookshire , adopted daughter Tricia Jones and
grandson Aiden Todd, along with two sisters, and one brother.
Services will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2009, at 2 p.m. at
Smith & Kernke, 14624 N. May Avenue in Oklahoma City. In lieu of
flowers, donations can be made in Eddie's honor to the Oklahoma
Heart Hospital, whose staff treated him with the utmost care and
respect. Mail donations, payable to OHH Volunteer Auxiliary,
