December 2, 2008Pauline Selma Buechel, 97, of Wichita,
formerly of Terre Haute, Ind., died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008 at
Andover Lifecare Center.
Pauline was born in Wellington, on March 11, 1911 to Charles
John Buechel and Johanna Emilie Wilde. She was the youngest of
four children and was pre-deceased by her siblings, Irene
Jennings R.N. (graduate of Wesley Nursing School), Charles
Garland Buechel, and Ruth Laughlin. A first cousin, Kathryn
Buechel Fornshell resides in Howard, Kan.
Pauline graduated from Wellington High School then completed
nurse training at Wesley Hospital Nursing School, graduating in
May 1933. She headed schools of nursing in Pennsylvania and
Terre Haute, Ind., where she retired. She also worked on
developing equipment for sterilizing syringes, needles, and
rubber gloves before the days of disposable equipment.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008 at 1
p.m. at the Epworth United Methodist Church, 856 S. Green St.
Burial is at 3 p.m. at the Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Wellington.
Cochran Mortuary in Wichita is in charge of the arrangements.
