Ruby Canton was born at Buffalo, WY, December 9, 1885. She
lived there with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Frank M.
Canton, until they moved to Nebraska City in 1892 and
two years later came with them to Oklahoma. In 1897,Canton was
sent to the interior of Alaska as a United States Marshal, and
Ruby and her mother returned to Wyoming.
After graduating from the Buffalo high school, she went to
Chicago where she studied music for one year under Rudolph Ganz.
When she came to Oklahoma, where her parents had returned in
1906, she was offered a position as head of the music department
at Oklahoma A&M college but preferred another year in school.
In 1908 Governor Haskell appointed her librarian at what was
then called Central Normal School at Edmond. In later years she
continued advanced studies at the University of Chicago,
Columbia University, the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie
Tech. She spent the summer of 1925 aboard. She died July 18,
1928, having been a member of the faculty at Central State
College, Edmond, for 20 years to a day.

Ruby Canton Rites To Be Held Friday
Funeral services for Miss Ruby Canton, daughter of the late
Frank M. Canton, will
be held at 4 o'clock Friday afternoon in the Hahn funeral home.
Miss Canton died suddenly Wednesday night in St. Louis from a
sudden heart attack. Miss Canton had been ill for several months
but was thought to be recovering.
Services will be conducted by Judge Elmer L. Fulton, former
reader in the Christian Science church of which Miss Canton was
a member. Burial will be in
Fairlawn Cemetery.
