CHOCTAW
- Sobs were heard all over the chapel, but none louder than
Amber Croom's. The grieving mother's agony swelled during a
slideshow and rose to a crescendo as her daughter's casket was
opened and she passed by to pay her respects, one of many who
bowed and brushed the infant's body with their lips.
Behind her, surrounded by
bouquets and wreaths of pale flowers, a small white casket held
the body of Allie Elizabeth Croom.
Allie's parents -- Amber
Croom and Jonathan Croom, are divorced.
The 2-year-old girl drowned Thursday at Lake Stanley Draper.
"The Lord chooses the most
precious for his own garden, and Allie was the most precious of
the precious," the Rev. Buddy Kuhlman said during the afternoon
services.
The pews of the funeral home chapel were filled with mourners.
Friends and relatives of Allie's parents - Amber Croom and
Jonathan Croom , who are divorced - packed the main chamber and
an adjacent side room. Others observed through glass from the
foyer.
'In heaven now'
Emotions ran high. Even Kuhlman wept as the video slideshow of
Allie's life was played over a musical medley ending with a
rendition of "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," which Allie loved
to sing.
As the throng emptied from the cool, dim tranquility of the
funeral home, half a dozen pallbearers carried the casket into
the summer heat, dutifully lifting the girl's body into the back
of the hearse. Allie was buried in a Midwest City cemetery.
"She is in heaven now. She feels no pain, no suffering. She's
waiting for those she loves," Kulhman said.
"And God loves little Allie even more than you do."
