DOBELBOWER C.W. "Dobie", our gentle and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather reached out and let God take his hand on Tuesday, July 3, 2001. Dobie leaves a legacy of love to his wife of 70 years, Virginia, and to his eight children: Jack, Tom, Virginia, Kathleen, Mark, Mary Gaye, Debbie, and Peter. Gentle memories fill their spouses hearts as well as those of Dobie's 21 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Dobie was born in Pittsburg, Kansas on October 18, 1909 to John and Mattie Dobelbower. He was preceded in death by them and by his sister and dear friend, Irene. We are all certain that theirs was a joyful reunion.

Dobie met and married his wife Virginia Dunlap in 1931 in Parsons, Kansas. To his last breath, they remained each others best friend.

Dobie and Virginia moved from Kansas City, Missouri to Oklahoma City in 1943 when he went to work for State Finance, later to become Dial Finance and now Wells Fargo. As manager of State Finance local branch, Dobie often found it necessary to terminate an employee, the most difficult part of his job. Before he did that, however, he had a job lined up for that person. On those evenings, Dobie would come home feeling so much sadness that crying was the only thing that helped. It was the same when it came to disciplining his 8 children, especially his girls. It truly was harder on him than his children.

Dobie retired from Dial after 37 years of loyal service. At age 67 he went to work for Northwest Bank as Vice-President of Marketing where he was loved and respected by all of his colleagues. He retired from Northwest at age 85.

In all of us who are left behind, there remains Dobie's kind and gentle spirit. It will remind us the rest of our lives to "treat others as you would have them treat you".

The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 4:00 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2001 at the Cathederal of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 3200 N. Western Avenue. The committal service will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers, his wife Virginia and her children request donations be made to John Carroll School or the St. Vincent DePaul Society, both at the Cathedral of our Lady of Perpetual Help, 3214 Lake Ave., Oklahoma City, 73118. Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper N. Grand at Classen 848-3744
