FARINO Wilma Vera, 92, of Midwest City, passed away Jan. 16, 2002.
She was born Aug. 30, 1909 in Spencer, OK to Miller & Bessie (Osborn) White. Raised as a farm girl in her early years, she often rode her pony, "Fanny" to school, picked cotton, shucked corn, & canned & dried vegetables from the family garden.
She attended Choctaw & Harrah Schools & was a starting guard on the Choctaw High School Team. She also competed in track & field events & was a member of the Choctaw 4-H Club 1920.
In 1926, Wilma married Vin Anderson and together they had 2 sons: Johnny & Tommy. She worked as Rosie the Riveter at Douglas Aircraft at Tinker Field during World War II. She was a member of: the Soldier Creek Home Extension Club for 68 years, becoming the oldest member; American Legion Post 190 Auxiliary for 30 years; a chaplain at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 7192; 50 year Charter Member of Douglas Blvd. United Methodist Church; & she spent many years as an officer & member of the Spencer Golden Agers.
Wilma also won over 2500 Blue Ribbons at State & Community Fairs in canning, baking, & crafts. She is survived by her 2 sons: Johnny of Crescent, OK & Tommy of Dallas, TX; 5 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Ralph White of Harrah; & sister, Minnie Dike of Spencer.
Services will be held 10 a.m., Sat., Jan. 19, 2002 at the
Douglas Blvd. United Methodist Church with interment at
Arlington Memory Gardens. Bill Eisenhour Northeast
