Lois M. Flanery, died April 23, 1992, in Oklahoma City, after a brief illness. She was born May 24, 1905, in Corley, Arkansas, to Nanny Lou Rogers and John Jasper Thompson and was the widow of Kenneth H. Flanery, long-time Midwest City home builder and developer. She attended Conway Teachers College, Conway, Arkansas, and taught school in her hometown of Corley, on Mt. Magazine, until her marriage on November 13, 1923, in Little Rock, Arkansas.

From 1940 she and her husband resided in the Midwest City area, where she was active in community affairs. She served as Worthy Matron to the Galilee Chapter of Eastern Star in 1950, and was a member of the election board, the Garden Club, and the MWC Duplicate Bridge Club. From the age of five she was gifted in needlework--knitting, embroidery, crochet, Irish lace, and tatting and, in her later years, received many ribbons at Oklahoma State Fairs; she was engaged in teaching tatting to her granddaughter, Kellie, until shortly before her death. She was an enrolled Eastern Cherokee Indian and a direct descendant of Nancy Ward, the last holder of the Cherokee civil title of Beloved Woman. Above all else she was a loving and steadfast wife and mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Harold Flanery, Jr., of Puerta Vallarta, Jalisco, Mex., and James Michael Flanery of the City; and two daughters, Mrs. R.W. (Ann) Finley of the City and Nina Lois Flanery of Norman. A third son, Daniel Warren Flanery, preceded her in death in 1983. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Claudia Johnson of Corley, Ark.; fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and by sisters-in-law, Mrs. Beverly Osborne and Mrs. Philip Kridler, both of Oklahoma City, Mrs. James J. Thompson of Scranton, Arkansas, and many beloved and loving nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are her grandsons, Kevin Michael Flanery, Robert Flanery Finley, Daren Scott Flanery, Jesse MacPhendleton Ballenger, Kenneth Dick Finley, Andrew Wakefield Ballenger, Michael Henson Flanery and James Patrick Flanery. A Wake will be held Sunday, April 26, at 6:30 p.m. at the Guardian North Funeral Home Chapel. A Funeral Mass is scheduled at St. Eugene Catholic Church, 2400 W. Hefner Road, on Monday, April 27, at 2:00 p.m., with interment at Arlington Memory Gardens Cemetery.
