Bill
E. Gentry, age 77, of Choctaw, Oklahoma passed away March 13,
2009. Bill was born June 3, 1931 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to
Tom and Posie Gentry. He was a beloved and devoted Husband,
Father, and Papa and will be missed greatly.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Billie Gentry of the
home; children Barbara Gentry of Choctaw, Don and Julie Gentry
of Harrah, Debbie Vinyard of Choctaw, and Randy Gentry of
Choctaw; grandchildren, Lori and Shane May, Jill and Jarret
Maples, Justin and Derek Vinyard, Ryan and Matthew Gentry;
great-grandchildren, Dalton, Carson, Jarren, Jaelen, and Joslin
and a host of family and friends.
He is preceded in death by parents Tom and Posie Gentry;
brothers, Jack Gentry and Frank Gentry; sisters, Wilma Baxter
and Pat Cutter. Bill was a member of the Church of Christ at
Choctaw for 45 years. Before that he attended the Central Church
of Christ of Oklahoma City where he served for many years as a
song leader at both congregations. He served in the United
States Air Force. He was very active in city government in the
town of Choctaw in the 1960s and 1970s. He was elected to the
Choctaw Board of Trustees in the 1960s and by his peers was
elected to be chairman. In the 1970s he was then elected to the
City Council. He had a long career in residential home building
and commercial construction as a general contractor. He also
sold real estate in eastern Oklahoma County for many years as a
licensed broker. He was a member in the past of many other
organizations such as: Oklahoma Home Builders Association,
Kiwanis Club, and Shriner's Club.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 11
a.m. at the Choctaw Church of Christ, under the direction of
Ford Funeral Service. Burial will follow at
Sunny Lane
Cemetery, in Del City.
