Pin Caused Quick Death
Girl Picks Slight Eruption And Dies In One Week
Because of septic poisoning developing from a pin scratch received one week
before, Cressa Guthrie, aged 17 years, and a student of the Lincoln
school, died at 4 o'clock yesterday morning at the home of her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. L. A. Guthrie, 620 Kansas avenue. The body was buried twelve hours
later in Fairlawn cemetery, following funeral services at the residence,
conducted by the Rev. Forrest Maddox, pastor of the Immanuel Baptist church,
of which congregation she was a member.
On Friday of last week Miss Guthrie opened a small skin eruption on her
upper lip with a pin. The wound caused by the incision of the pin bled for a
short time.
She attended school on Monday morning as usual, but pain from the wound
became to intense that she asked to be excused at noon. From that time the
suffering of the patient increased until it resulted in her death.
