Boisey M. Haynes, age 96, educator, died Saturday, March 30, 2002 in her Oklahoma City home at 12:50 P.M. surrounded by her immediate family.

Mrs. Haynes was born September 29, 1905 in Oakland, Mississippi. At an early age she moved with her family to the Clearview Community in Okfuskee County. She was reared and attended elementary school in Clearview. Boisey was valedictorian of her Boley High School class. She graduated from Langston University and did graduate studies at Hampton Institute in Hampton, Virginia and Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. She earned a Masters degree from Oklahoma State University and did post graduate work at the University of Tulsa. Boisey joined Tyree Chapel A.M.E. Church in Clearview as a child and remained a faithful lifelong member of the A.M.E. Church. Other church memberships include Wilkes Chapel in Tulsa and Allen Chapel in Oklahoma City at the time of her demise. Some of the offices Mrs. Haynes held in the A.M.E. Church are: Young People's Department Leader, Layman, and Parliamentarian; Sunday School Superintendent and Secretary.

Mrs. Haynes began her professional career as a seventeen-year-old teacher. The schools include: Spring Hill, Little Hill, North Fork and Oak Ridge Elementary; and Clearview High. She was a longtime principal at Shiloh Elementary School. In 1956 Mrs. Haynes retired from education and began a new career. Her eighteen-year tenure with the United States Government as a communication specialist started in Tulsa and ended in Oklahoma City. During her final retirement she freely gave her time, knowledge, expertise and GUIDANCE to anyone in need. Boisey (or Mrs. 'B') as she was sometimes affectionately called) was multi-talented and thoroughly enjoyed producing the annual brochure for the Clearview Open Rodeo. She produced this souvenir book until 2001. Boisey Haynes will be dearly missed by all that knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents. L. H. and Susie Haynes; sister, Rosie H. Swain; brother, R. H. Haynes; nieces, Etta Wease Swain, Florence Swain Watson, and Geraldine Swain Bennett; and great-nephews, Gerald Tyrone Bennett and Maurice Watson.

She is survived by her son, John Farris, San Jose, California; daughter, Emma Jean Farris Berryman, Oklahoma City; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other loving relatives and friends.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 6, 2002 at Allen Chapel A.M.E Church, 1400 Northeast 13th Street, in Oklahoma City. Following the funeral there will be a graveside service at the Clearview Cemetery in Clearview, Oklahoma. Temple & Sons Mortuary 2801 N. Kelley Ave., OKC.
