Miles
W. Hinds Jr., 67, was born at Fort Snelling, MN, on June 20,
1941. He passed away on May 2, after a courageous battle with
lung cancer. He married Ingrid (Knabe) Hinds on 2 July 1965, in
Geislingen/Steige, Germany.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Isabel and Miles W.
Hinds Sr. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ingrid Hinds,
and two children: daughter, Bridgit Hinds Daniels (husband
Barry), son, Lieutenant Colonel Mark Hinds (wife Shelly); 3
grandchildren, Kacey Masterson, Jason Daniels, and Macy Hinds;
and one great-grandchild, Brooke Masterson; and 5 brothers and 3
sisters. Miles served his government for 41 years with
dedicated, self-less service. He served in the USMC from 1958 to
1962 and then in the USAF from 1962 until his retirement in
1979. His military career was spent as a radio relay equipment
technician/specialist. He served in the Far East, Germany,
Florida, the Netherlands, Italy, and Tinker AFB, where he
retired. During the 1976 presidential campaign, Miles supported
the protective mission of the United States Secret Service by
providing vital communication support. He then worked for the
FAA flight inspection office in Oklahoma City and Germany for 20
years, from 1980 to 2001, traveling the world to ensure the
aviation flight approaches were safe for use. Miles received
numerous achievement awards during his distinguished military
and FAA career. Following his retirement, he worked for Heath
Consultants and SM&P as a utility locator, and then for
Trochta’s flowers. Miles enjoyed bowling, reading, golf,
fishing, and traveling. Miles was a truly giving person, never
selfish and always looking after his wife and family. He will be
greatly missed by his family and friends.
Services will be held on Tuesday, May 5th, at 2 pm, at
Candlewood Chapel, under the direction of Ford Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer
Society.
