Humphrey, Ethridge Milton, Jr. died May 19, 2000, after an
extended illness. Milton was born August 22, 1924, in Oklahoma
City, where he lived his entire life. He was preceded in death by his parents,
E.M., Sr. and Lucile
Humphrey; his brother, Herbert C. Humphrey; and two sisters,
Thelma Oldham and Marie Hartzler.
Survivors include his wife, Nadine; sons and
daughters-in-law, Douglas Humphrey and Jeanne Ambrosio of
Princeton, NJ and Rev. Bradley and Janie Humphrey of Norman, OK;
grandchildren, Erin and Allen Buck of Atlanta, GA and Wesley
Humphrey of Norman; sisters, Louetta Hooper and Helen and
spouse, Richard Dickson all of Oklahoma City; sister-in-law and
brother-in-law, Carol and LeRoy Smith of Tuttle, OK and
brother-in-law, and sister-in-law, Bob and Sallie Baughman of
Oklahoma City, and several very special nieces and nephews.
Milton attended Willard Elementary and Roosevelt Junior High
Schools and graduated from Central High School in 1943.
Immediately after high school, he joined the U.S.Marine Corps, a
service he remained proud of until his death. After his
discharge, he attended both A & M College at Stillwater and
the University of Oklahoma at Norman. In 1948, he married Nadine
Baughman, and in 1998, they were fortunate enough to celebrate
their 50th wedding anniversary. "Red", as he was known
to his business contemporaries, traveled the highways of
Oklahoma for 40 years as salesman for several farm implement
companies: Modern Tractor, Massey-Ferguson, Service Equipment,
and Riverside Tractor Parts. It was unusual to find any town in
Oklahoma where he was a complete stranger. Milton was truly one
of the "greatest generation" of men who loved their
country enough to die for it. He would willingly have made the
same sacrifice for his family. All through his many illnesses,
Milton's response was always, "I'm fine", when asked
how he was. We believe now at last he is truly
"fine".
The family will receive visitors at the Vondel Smith North
Colonial Manor from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 22,
2000. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at
10:00 a.m. at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Hospce...
